MadeYou, a company focused on people development, provides a holistic portfolio of services bringing together coaching, mentoring, and training for professionals at all levels. Luke Todd, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder explains how crucial personal development is in an ever-competitive corporate environment, and how it can make all the difference in someone’s professional journey.
Luke has been established in Malta for 11 years, so he is practically a local. He brings with him a wealth of experience from his tenure at senior customer management level at globe-leader eBay. Today, Luke channels his experience into helping individuals and businesses achieve their full potential. In fact, MadeYou uses Malta as its ideal base to reach out to both local as well as an international clientele, spread across all continents and time-zones.
“We have clients from Europe, the far East, and the Americas, with whom we maintain a healthy conversation, helping them grow in their professional journey,” Luke explains. “Our efforts go beyond providing a service to clients, as we strive to match our clients with the right coaches, who in turn are carefully selected to reflect our values at MadeYou.”
MadeYou distinguishes itself from other similar outfits, as it ensures that coaches are experienced and qualified business leaders themselves, who can provide guidance and mentorship as they dip into their own real-world experience.
“It is crucial for us that our coaches are high-powered individuals who can talk from experience. It is very much like going to a gym and finding an instructor who isn’t in their best shape! Same with a professional coach who should be someone you can connect with; someone who is both qualified, and at the same time embodies the principles they teach. It is imperative that they must have the necessary blend of qualification, experience and expertise, offering first hand insight to our clients.”
And at this juncture it is important to determine the difference between mentoring and coaching, which in technical terms are two separate matters all together. “Mentoring is usually associated with budding professionals or people who would be in their first experiences at a senior level. As the term suggests, it is provided by someone with enough experience to inspire. Coaching on the other hand is provided for the more experienced and tenured businessperson who may be facing a challenge and would need some specialised guidance,” Luke explains.
“Coaching is not about giving answers, but rather about helping individuals reposition their thought processes and find the answers themselves. In many cases, they would be pluri-accomplished business leaders in their own right, who would have the answers already, but they would need some guidance in finding them. This method builds self-awareness and empowers clients to make confident decisions.”
The major challenge faced by business leaders is that they would not necessarily have someone they can bang ideas with and discuss their professional conundrums.
“High powered individuals, though resourceful themselves, sometimes lack the support structures that help them see through certain challenges. Thankfully, we are seeing a change in this culture, and more business leaders are seeking professional guidance. Coaching is a rapidly growing sector, but there is still much room for development, particularly in Malta. While markets like the UK and the US have embraced executive coaching as a norm, only 20% of C-level executives globally have a coach. This represents a missed opportunity, as investing in personal growth is critical for both individual success and business sustainability,” Luke ascertains.
MadeYou prides itself on offering bespoke coaching solutions, designed to address a spectrum of needs across industries. These cover C-level coaching, Executive directors focusing on strategy and operations, Presentation skills coaching, New manager mentoring, Mid to senior management development, Career enhancement within an organisation, Career transition coaching, and finally Personal development. MadeYou’s dedication to tailor programmes to a perfect fit for their clients, goes beyond the programme itself, and puts the client-coach relationship as top priority.
“Matching the right coach to the client is crucial,” Luke warns. “We make it a point to follow our clients’ journeys closely to understand and make sure that they are obtaining the personal and professional growth they set out to, from the first session. Having said that, in the rare case that it would be needed, we even offer the flexibility for clients to switch coaches if the match doesn’t feel right.”
Like every other investment a business makes, return of investment is crucial, and MadeYou is adamant to show this for its clients. “I’m a huge fan of return on investment, and that is why I make sure that every session, delivers value to our clients. In fact, from the start, we draw up a set of clear objectives and measurable progress path that the client would want to achieve from their sessions, so it is easy then to determine one’s growth.”
MadeYou’s influence extends beyond one-on-one coaching. The company’s presence in Malta and the UK enables them to offer both in-person and online sessions, catering to diverse client preferences. They coach individuals across nationalities, drawing on the expertise of their team, which includes Maltese, Welsh, and English professionals.
Additionally, MadeYou champions giving back. Many of their coaches find fulfilment in seeing the immediate value they bring to their clients’ lives. “It’s about building confidence and supporting people to become the best managers and leaders they can be,” Luke adds.
Looking ahead, robust continuous growth is certainly on the cards for MadeYou, as the industry continues to develop locally and beyond. “As more professionals recognise the benefits of coaching, demand is continuing to rise. MadeYou is well-positioned to meet this need, offering tailored services that combine experience, expertise, and a commitment to excellence. Coaching is not just a service; it’s an investment in your future. Whether you’re a CEO refining your strategy, a manager building confidence, or a professional navigating a career transition, the right coach can unlock your potential and drive lasting success.”
