The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) remains resolutely focused on upholding Malta’s reputation as one of the world’s most respected iGaming jurisdictions, according to MGA Chairperson Ryan C. Pace.

Writing in the Authority’s 2024 Annual Report, Mr Pace said that Malta continues to offer much more than just a gaming licence – it provides long-term stability, regulatory clarity, and a platform for responsible growth.

“The long-term presence of operators, the maturity of their operations, and the industry’s investment in skilled human capital all point to a jurisdiction that offers more than a licence – it offers continuity, trust, and the infrastructure to support growth responsibly,” he stated.

Adapting with purpose

Mr Pace noted that, despite a rapidly evolving global regulatory landscape and shifting business models, the MGA has remained focused on its core mandate: effective regulation, foresight-led adaptation, and supporting the sustainable development of one of Malta’s most important economic sectors.

Throughout 2024, the Authority launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing its technological capabilities and regulatory agility, in line with its strategic priorities. These efforts are intended not only to keep pace with sectoral change, but to position Malta ahead of the curve.

“Effective regulation is not static,” he said. “It must evolve in step with the realities it seeks to govern.”

Collaboration and credibility

Highlighting Malta’s increasing influence in international discussions, the MGA Chairperson pointed to a growing emphasis on cooperation with global and domestic stakeholders in key areas such as anti-money laundering, sports betting integrity, and player protection.

“Efforts to promote constructive dialogue have helped reinforce Malta’s voice in global regulatory discussions,” Mr Pace said, noting that the Authority’s resilience lies in its ability to embrace change while preserving regulatory integrity.

The MGA also maintained a strong line of communication with the industry throughout the year, balancing support for innovation with a strategic, principled approach to compliance.

Confidence in Malta’s regulatory future

Looking ahead, Mr Pace said the Board is confident in the MGA’s strategic direction. The Authority will remain focused on preserving the integrity of the Maltese licence, encouraging innovation through sound, transparent regulation, and building public trust.

“Our focus will remain on safeguarding the core values that have shaped Malta’s reputation as a leading jurisdiction, while adapting with purpose and unity in the face of change,” he concluded.
