Mask

The Maltese health authorities have announced a latest relaxation of COVID-related restrictions, with measures loosened for both travellers and those already in the country.

The move was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne on Friday – with the restrictions set to be dropped in time for the CasinoBeats summit starting on 24th May 2022.

The timing will be welcome – especially considering that from 2nd May, all restrictions on events, both indoors and outdoors, will be lifted, meaning the CasinoBeats event will be one of the first to take place in pre-COVID conditions.

The country will also be lifting its masks rules from the same date, with mask use legally required at hospital, on flights, and inside homes for the elderly only. Mr Fearne did, however, clarify that businesses still retain the right to require visitors to wear masks.

Travel restrictions are also being reduced, although the dark red and red zone classifications will still be used.

The dreaded passenger locator forms that have widely been regarded as having created long queues at Malta International Airport will no longer be required.

A negative test result, vaccine certificate, or recovery certificate will still be required to enter Malta, however.

Malta’s iGaming events calendar begins with the blockbuster CasinoBeats Summit 2022 and the so-called Malta iGathering, hosted by SiGMA.

Later on, in late September, the iGaming international iGaming community will again converge in Malta for the iGaming NEXT conference and iGaming Idol award.
