Betsson, Kindred Group, Leovegas and William Hill, some of the largest gambling operators in Sweden, have joined forces to increase awareness about the Swedish gambling market through a new website, “Fakta om spel” (facts about gambling).
The companies aim for the site, launched in collaboration with the Swedish Association for Online Gambling (BOS), to be a central source of facts and data about the licensed Swedish market, which will be “easily accessible and thus encourage more fact-based debates”.
“Knowledge about the Swedish gambling market is generally low and there are often misconceptions about how the market is regulated, what requirements a license entails, and how the market is developing”, BOS commented.
Fakta om spel will allow visitors to access independent information about the gambling industry, recent statistics on taxes and marketing, as well as published research and reports.
Since January 2019, the Swedish gambling market has been re-regulated and open to licensed operators to offer their products to Swedish consumers.
Presently, “some 100 operators have a license to operate in Sweden with joint revenues of about SEK 15 billion (€1.49 billion) and contribute approximately SEK 3 billion (€300 million) in gambling taxes every year”, according to BOS.
“It is important that we have an open and free debate about the gambling market. By launching ‘Facts about gambling’ we hope to contribute to a more fact-based debate and encourage increased cooperation within the gambling industry and with other important stakeholders”, commented Gustaf Hoffstedt, BOS Secretary-General.
“The idea is that the site expands over time and we would like to see more organisations get behind this initiative. We know that increased knowledge contributes to a healthier, safer and fairer gambling market by highlighting the benefits of a licensed market, but also highlighting the the important challenges that the industry, authorities, politicians and suppliers need to jointly focus on”.
