A familiar logo has been added to EA Sports’ website as an official partner for the FIFA 22 Global Series – that of the BOV ePremier League.

The addition will be a major boost to the reach of the country’s official efootball league, which was first operated in 2019.

The tournament, an official partner of EA since its inception, was set up in collaboration with the Malta Football Association (MFA) and GMR Entertainment.

The format this year has been revised in order to “freshen things up”. The competition will span across 4 separate stages of play, namely Online Qualifiers, Offline Qualifiers, Group Stage, and finally the Live KO Stage. In terms of runtime, the competition will kick-off this December and conclude in May 2022.

Furthermore, matches during the online/offline qualifiers will be played on PS4, while the Group Stage onwards brings the next-gen console as we hop onto the PS5. This makes the Malta BOV ePremier League 2021/22 Season the very first major local esports competition officially being played on PS5.

To really top it all off, apart from pride, the winner is also be eligible for a highly coveted seat to the EA Global Series Playoff Phase, giving players a greater chance to seek international glory.

Kersten Chircop, founder and director of GMR Entertainment, which continues to run the event in collaboration with the MFA, commented on the achievement to have the tournament feature on EA’s website, describing it as: “Another milestone for Maltese esports.”
