As Maltco’s 10 year lottery concession in Malta is drawing to an end next year, a new operator, National Lottery plc, has been appointed as the new concession holder following a €105 million bid.
The company was one of two competitors seeking the concession. The other, the Sisal Malta Consortium submitted a €53 million.

National Lottery is majority owned by Izi Group plc, and has the group’s majority shareholder, Johann Schembri as a director, according to the Malta Business Registry.
Izi Group also owns leading local gambling company Izibet, which offers both online and retail gambling services to customers, and holds the majority of shares in Peninsula Gaming Group, which operates the popular Dragonara Casino via Dragonara Gaming limited.
Proposals for a new national lottery licence were invited from October 8th, after which bids received were analysed by technical and financial advisory boards
Financial offers were opened on Monday, with the preferred party chosen on a basis of making the highest offer.
