Dutch gaming regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has officially given the green light to 10 online gaming operators by granting them licences just days before the country’s market is set to launch on 1st October.
KSA said the recipient of such licences will be made known later in the week. The regulator had initially anticipated the receipt of around 40 licence applications ahead of the October launch, and had received around 28 by April. Each licence comes at a cost to the applicant of €48,000.
KSA chairman chairman René Jansen shared he anticipated more applications to be submitted in the near future and suggested that the market will not look “complete” until July 2022.
In the months leading up to the country’s iGaming market launch, the Dutch Government has called for harsher action against unlicensed operators, with the regulator shutting down illegal bingo and lottery operations and a series of fines being levied.
