The Battle of Malta came to at the end of October, and everyone involved agrees it was a resounding success, both for the organisers, as well as the participants who came from some 60 different countries spread around the globe.

iGamingCapital.mt sat with lead Battle of Malta organiser and Casino Malta Marketing Manager Telly Bartolo who shared some insights into why this was truly a special edition.

“For starters, Battle of Malta once again managed to set a new gold standard, with a €2 million guaranteed prize pool for the tournament, which took place between 17th and 25th October. In fact, during the 2023 autumn edition of the Battle of Malta, a whopping €1.5 million were guaranteed by the organisers, while another €500,000 were added on during various side events throughout the comprehensive schedule. This makes it the greatest guarantee in Malta poker history,” said Telly.

Set over eight days in the Eden Arena at the InterContinental Malta, Battle of Malta saw some 2,000 unique participants from Europe, Africa, South America and beyond, making their way to the Med for the iconic event, which has been running since 2012.

“There was something for everyone at the Battle of Malta,” Telly notes. “The weather was perfect and the poker action rolled day and night, making it a memorable edition.”

Battle of Malta may hold the record for some impressive guranteed prize pots, but it is also the place for any poker fan of any level.  In fact, spread across some 160 tables, all ably manned by experienced coupiers who are brought to Malta from across Europe for the event, tournament buy-ins start at €70, working their way up to €5,300 for the special two-day Siege of Malta.

Moreover, cash games at a variety of stakes, running 24 hours a day took place at the Casino Malta a short stroll away, within the same Eden complex.

“We are pleased that over the years we have managed to build a reputable brand for a world-class tournament that is capable of attracting the finest professional poker players in the scene. However, we make it a point to keep it friendly and family-oriented, as we want our participants to travel with their loved ones, and enjoy our lovely islands, apart from the tables.”

In fact, Battle of Malta offered uninterrupted entertainment that went beyond the game of poker. An extensive leaisure programme included beach parties, excusions to cultural sites, yachting experiences and much more.

Looking forward to next year, Telly is already getting busy preparing as ambitions are ever so high. “We start preparing for our next edition immediately, with the goal of reaching higher with every edition. We look forward to attracting more partners from other prestigious tournaments from around the world, as we aim at taking the Battle of Malta to a new level,” Telly concludes.
