Malta’s annual Safer Gambling Week, is set to take place at the beginning of November, hosting five days of discussions, informed opinions, celebrity messages, personal stories, innovations, visions, guidance, podcasts and interviews, providing a panoramic focus on every aspect of Safer Gambling.

This year’s event will be led by iGaming industry NGO iGEN, with its local focus, concentrating on the work of member companies locally, in collaboration with Safer Gambling Week UK and the Safer Gambling Week of the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA).

Through this collaboration, the event is expected to provide a wealth of engaging and informative content online from right across Europe, from what the industry is doing to provide greater player protection and support, to how people can identify problem gambling in oneself or a loved one, and “much more.”

Problem gambling accounts for 0.7 per cent of players (in the UK), according to the UK Gambling Commission (2020).

However, contrary to many people’s perception, iGaming industry stakeholders insist they take players welfare very seriously – pointing out that their company’s objectives are to establish a long-term sustainable relationship with its players, and identify ad support those demonstrating problem gambling.

This, they say, differentiates iGaming from land-based gambling, which lacks the opportunity to offer the same level of care.

Indeed, several leading industry actors, such as Kindred Group, have committed to ambitious schemes to stamp out harmful gambling.

Along with the aforementioned international alliances, the event will also host contributions from the Betting and Gaming Council, Betknowmore UK, Gaming Malta, the Responsible Gaming Foundation, Malta Gaming Authority, Genesis Global Limited, Internet Vikings, Aspire Global, Betway Group, Kindred Group, Betsson Group, Hero Gaming, and Tipico.

If you, or a loved one, are affected by gambling, please call the helpline 1117 – support is available.
