MGA’s spate of licence revocations: Super7plus & Winners Malta Operations latest to get the axe

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has continued its latest spate of licence cancellations, with the most recent firms to get the axe being Super7plus Limited and Winners Malta Operations Limited.

In both cases, which pertain to B2C licences, the MGA gave no reasons behind the decisions, while the regulatory actions are open to appeal.

Super7plus’ cancellation came into effect as of 17th January, while Winners Malta Operations saw its licence stripped with effect from 11th January.

Super7plus has been ordered to immediately suspend all gaming operations with immediate effect and cease to register any new players in terms of its licence. Meanwhile, it ordered the company to allow existing players to access their accounts for the purpose of requesting a withdrawal of outstanding player balances.

In the case of Winners Malta Operations, the MGA ordered the company to refund all player money to the “legitimate players accordingly and in line with the Gaming Act”.

In both cases, the companies were asked to submit a transaction report extracted from their back-end systems together with the supporting bank statements, attesting that all player funds have been duly remitted to the registered players within a period of seven days from the licence cancellation date.

They were also ordered to remove, with immediate effect, any reference to the MGA and their MGA-licence.

The latest enforcement actions follow a B2C licence cancellation for Genesis Global on 12th January, following the company’s licence suspension in January 2023. The licence cancellation means Genesis is no longer able to offer gambling under its MGA permit, a significant development considering the operator had been running 23 websites under the licence. Websites impacted include Casinojoy.com, Spinit.com, Vegasoo.com, Sloty.com and Genesiscasino.com.

Just last week, Rush Gaming’s licence was suspended until further notice, which operates Fansbet.com and Onebet.com.

Betago also had its licence cancelled last week, and was ordered to return all player funds and remove references to the MGA licence from its websites.
