A board game company based in Malta has become the first in the country to win the prestigious Kennerspiel des Jahres.
Mighty Boards won the award for the game Rebirth.
The Kennerspiel des Jahres is an international board game industry honour,
Gaming Malta, a foundation that was set up by the Government of Malta and the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), said that the game is designed by legendary game designer Reiner Knizia, and that Rebirth began as a basic paper prototype before Mighty Boards developed its distinctive world.
Rebirth is a tile-laying game for 2-4 players, where each turn, players draw a tile from their supply and place it strategically on the board. “These tiles represent your clan’s contribution to rebuilding the land. Rebirth rewards strategic foresight and clever tactical play, with tougher decisions emerging over the course of the game,” Mighty Boards says.
Rebirth has already sold 120,000 copies across 15 languages.
“Mighty Boards’ achievement reflects the ambitions of Malta Vision 2050, supporting homegrown companies to develop intellectual property and build international partnerships, while competing successfully in global creative markets,” Gaming Malta said.
