Malta’s iGaming sector, a cornerstone of the national economy, is taking centre stage in a new 13-episode television series airing on TVM+.
Launched by BetStarters’ Chief Operating Officer Glenn Debattista and industry veteran Fernando Mercieca, the series marks the first time the iGaming sector has been given dedicated airtime on Maltese television.
The programme, which premieres today at 6:30pm, aims to provide an accessible overview of the local iGaming landscape. While Fernando Mercieca takes on the role of presenter for all episodes, Mr Debattista – who played a key role in producing the series – will appear in the first instalment and select others.
“It’s always tough to try something new and get out of your comfort zone, but here we are,” Mr Debattista shared in a post announcing the launch. “It’s the first time that such a topic has its own airtime on local television, so I’m curious to see how it will be received.”
The series features interviews with a number of local professionals who have found success within the industry, offering viewers a chance to see some familiar faces while gaining insight into the sector’s inner workings.
Malta has established itself as a global hub for iGaming since the early 2000s, supported by a robust regulatory framework led by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). The industry accounted for approximately 12–13 per cent of the country’s GDP in 2023, contributing a direct €1.34 billion to the economy and supporting over 16,000 jobs – or 5.2 per cent of the national workforce.
The new show hopes to demystify the sector for the wider public while celebrating the innovation, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit that has propelled Malta to international prominence.
The first episode is now live on TVM+, with subsequent episodes set to air weekly.
